Happy New Year everyone!

I’ve been meaning to write this post for about a week now, but I only got back in the office about three days ago. My wife and I just finished up our end of the year roadtrips (with the dog of course!) to Nebraska for Thanksgiving, and South Carolina for Christmas.

This year has been quite a whirlwind, that much is true. A lot has been great, but a lot has been very difficult. You see, up until this past year I worked a 9-5 job. Since my 16th birthday I have worked as an employee, working for someone else. Then, after 10 years I finally got the opportunity to become my own boss. I’ll be honest, this first year of photography has not been what I expected. I’ve learned a ton, and made a few mistakes along the way, but none that haven’t taught me valuable lessons.

Not only did I start up my own photography business one year ago, Mindy and I moved half way across the country at the same time. Like I said, it’s been a whirlwind. We moved from Columbia, South Carolina to Houston, Texas. Starting a business is hard enough, but starting one from scratch in a place you’ve never even visited before?! Yea, there have been times when I felt quite overwhelmed. But in this first year of business I have also made some amazing memories that I will keep with me for a very long time:

Like the boyfriend who proposed in the middle of an anniversary session. Not to mention they became some of my first friends in Houston.

And the couple who needed a wedding photographer last minute for their small, beautiful, intimate wedding.

Or this romantic session I got to capture for a military couple while he was visiting her in Houston.

I was thrilled when two of Mindy and my best friends asked me to photograph their wedding. Even though it was outside during a downpour, nothing could dampen their spirits.

Thank you to the families who let me be a part of your lives this past year!

Thank you to Discovery Green for letting me capture many of your 2015 events.

Looking back, I see that 2015 went by a little too fast for my liking. It was an amazing first year to an exciting new career. There were times where I felt like I was on top of the world, and plenty of times where I wasn’t sure where the path was leading. However, I’m expecting just as much excitement, intrigue, and much much more from 2016! You’ll be hearing from me again soon. Thank you again to all the people who let me into their lives to be their photographer this past year. It’s more than just a job, it truly is walking through life with you, and that means a TON to me. 🙂
